WHAT IT IS

A fruit stand that started with a six-year-old and a sign, now selling mamey milkshakes beside a yard of emus and goats.

In 1959 Robert Moehling's father put him on the roadside with a table of cucumbers and, when nobody stopped, a sign reading ROBERT IS HERE. He is still there. The stand carries fruit most Americans have never seen (mamey, canistel, jackfruit, black sapote) and the milkshakes made from them are the reason the parking lot is full. Out back there are emus, goats, and tortoises, and a swing set, because everyone brings children.
