WHAT IT IS

Acres of concrete animals, windmills, fountains, and metal roosters at a crossroads, arranged in ranks.

It is a garden ornament yard that kept expanding until it became a landmark: hundreds of concrete lions, deer, bears, and Buddhas standing in rows in the sun, alongside windmills, birdbaths, wagon wheels, and painted metal chickens taller than a child. Nothing is behind a fence and nothing is curated. Drivers on US-17 pull over for photographs constantly, which the owners tolerate with grace.
