WHAT IT IS
A town of certified mediums, founded 1894, where the directory lists residents by spiritual specialty.
George Colby, a medium from New York, was reportedly led to this spot by a spirit guide named Seneca. The camp he founded is now a National Historic District of small wooden houses, each with a shingle: clairvoyance, healing, mediumship. The certification is real, in the sense that the camp issues it. The bookstore sells a walking map. Nobody will pressure you, which is somehow more unsettling.
