HAUNTED PLACES IN FLORIDA
The register is not credulous about ghosts, and these six entries are not here because the stories are true. They are here because of what has been built on top of the stories, which is usually more interesting and definitely more visitable.
A doll in a case at Fort East Martello receives between one and three apology letters a day and the museum keeps them in folders on the wall. A spiritualist camp founded in the 1890s still issues certifications in mediumship and still sells a walking map. A brick chair in a cemetery has accumulated a local rule about beer that the rangers would rather you did not test.
Four of the six are free, and two of them are working cemeteries, so go in daylight and behave accordingly. Two are in Key West, two in the Cassadaga area, which makes each pair a single afternoon.
