Twenty-four of the register's sixty entries charge nothing at all, which is a higher proportion than most people expect from a state with Florida's reputation for admission prices.

There is a reason for that. A lot of the strangest things here were never businesses. A monument someone built out of posted-in rocks, a town that renamed itself, a hill where the road plays a trick on you, a chair in a cemetery with a rule attached — none of these has a gate, because nobody ever worked out how to put one on them. What they cost you is the drive.

One caveat. Free to enter is not the same as free to park. Most of these are a roadside pull-off, a residential street or a gravel lot, and exactly one of them expects you to use a paid garage. Every entry below lists what it actually takes to get in, and where to leave the car.
